This WOW!!! is about artist Catherine White and her family, three generations of artists (and the ones still to come).

Catherine grew up in Baldwin, Long Island, NY. Her mother, Anna Klein was very involved in the Arts and ran an art studio in the carriage house on their property. She invited many artists to their home and studio, where Catherine now lives with her family. As a child, Catherine’s home life was a happening arts scene. She couldn’t help but absorb the love of art and the creative instinct to explore and develop that gift. Today’s painting, “Hot Fluff” is a perfect testimony. As Catherine told us:

“Hot Fluff was a still life set up by my Mother and myself. Hot chocolate and a feathery fan. No matter how hot we get. A fluffy, feathery fan can cool us down. I painted Hot Fluff about 17 years ago. At that time I had four children at home. The youngest, my daughter Victoria, who was four at the time, would come with me to my Mothers studio once a week. We would set up a still life. My Mother, myself, and Victoria would paint together. Other friends would paint too. It was a very special time in my life to be able to paint freely in the relaxed family atmosphere with my Mother and daughter. Especially since a four year old can be very active. Many workshops wouldn’t want any distractions and need to have a quiet, tranquil environment. Not Victoria’s Grandma’s studio. Victoria could shine and brighten the studio, and entertain us while we all painted.”

Catherine White went on to study art and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art at C.W. Post University, graduating Cum Laude in 1982. After college, commissions of her work and attending workshops at Anna Klein’s studio helped keep her talent alive and flourishing through the years of marriage and raising five children. She absorbed the creative diversity of many other professional, award-winning artists by attending their workshops.

Catherine excels in watercolor and is proficient in other mediums as well. She now runs the Artist Exposed Studio in the same carriage house of her childhood. She is a member of the Long Island Portrait Guild and her work has been exhibited at C.W. Post University, Nassau Community College, Planting Fields Arboretum and the Baldwin Public Library, among other venues.

Catherine has been an active artist for more than forty years. Her daughters are now following the artistic path paved by their mother and grandmother. Three generations of artists have pursued and continue to pursue the creative talent that is so inherent in the family.
